SUMMIT, IL – The School District 104 Board of Education has chosen Dr. David Negron as the district’s next superintendent of schools. Dr. Negron will officially begin his duties on Monday, July 1, 2024
Dr. Negron has been in the education profession since 2007. He has served in a variety of roles from school social worker, bilingual teacher, elementary school principal, middle school principal, director of elementary education, and most recently as a superintendent for the past nine years.
Several awards and advanced degrees contribute to his success as a superintendent. Dr. Negron has two master’s degrees from Benedictine University and University of Chicago as well as a Doctorate in Education from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. He was the winner of the Evelyn Harris Ginsburg Memorial Prize recipient for outstanding work with students by The University of Chicago in 2007, Educator of the Year Recipient by the Village of Hanover Park, Ambassador for Educational Excellence Award recipient by Schaumburg School District 54 in 2012, and Superintendent of the Year Finalist for the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents in 2018.
“These experiences have provided me with a unique perspective on the necessary systems that need to be in place to ensure that all students can succeed academically and to ensure that all of their socio-emotional needs are also addressed.”
When Dr. Negron is not in the office, he enjoys spending time with his family, watching sports, and going on family road trips.
When asked what he looks forward to most in his superintendent role at School District 104, Dr. Negron mentions, “ I look forward to meeting all our students, families, teachers, and staff members. I know that by working together with the entire School District 104 community we can accomplish great things for our students and the community.”
He also has a special connection to the community as he was baptized and married at St. Blasé Church in Summit, IL as well as his son being baptized there, and mentions how his career started at Summit School District 104 over 20 years ago and was the principal at Heritage Middle School prior to becoming a superintendent.
His selection is the culmination of a months-long search process by an executive search firm hired by the Board of Education to conduct a national search that yielded over 40 applicants.
The executive search firm conducted several data collection activities including public discussions, surveys, and stakeholder interviews to generate the best candidate matches for the district.
A survey was conducted from September – October 2023 that enabled the community and district staff to provide input in the superintendent search. The survey results contributed to a leadership profile that guided the recruitment and selection process for SD104’s next superintendent. The profile described specific characteristics stakeholders sought in a new leader. Clear themes emerged from those processes, which included the following:
- A superintendent with authentic interpersonal and communication skills.
- A superintendent who builds meaningful relationships with the community and presents integrity and trust.
- A superintendent who demonstrates strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
“Dr. Negron’s knowledge of School District 104, experiences throughout his career, and leadership skills shown throughout the interview process. […] I have the confidence Dr. Negron will continue to grow SD104 into one of the state’s most prestigious educational epicenters.” Said William Green, Board President of School District 104.
The School District 104 Board of Education invites the community to join them in extending a warm welcome to Dr. David Negron as the new Superintendent of School District 104.
