"This summer at the @HablaMerida Institute, we learned about Toro Nagashi. Toro Nagashi is a Japanese floating lantern festival that commemorates loved ones and wishes for peace. In room 16 at Graves, we celebrated Toro Nagashi by writing our hopes, dreams and wishes for this school year on a piece of paper that had been decorated with watercolor paint. We folded the paper into a boat and then we released our hopes/dreams/wishes. " - Graves 2nd grade

On September 15, 2003, author and illustrator of children’s books, Peter H. Reynolds released his book “The Dot.” In the story, Vashti felt like she couldn’t draw — but her art teacher wouldn’t accept that. “Just make a mark, and see where it takes you,” the teacher said to Vashti. So, she marked her parchment paper with a small dot. The next day, Vashti was surprised to find her paper with the dot on the classroom wall. Vashti was so proud of her work that she started creating drawings with different kinds of dots. (taken from nationaltoday.com)
Enjoy the work from Ms. Zucker’s art class to see what our Walker Bulldog artists created with just a dot. Great job, students!
