ABOUT US
All District 104 students complete and conclude their elementary education at Heritage Middle School, Home of the Sailors. Heritage Middle School, HMS, is home to the sixth through eighth graders. Approximately 480 students comprise our student population.
While at HMS, the staff members provide the students a quality education to better prepare them for Argo Community High School, college, and life in general. HMS students receive instruction in language arts, literature, mathematics (including pre-algebra and algebra), science, history, computer education, fine arts, Spanish, health, and physical education. Additional student support is provided through special education, speech, Title 1 Reading, ELL, and social work services. Historically, HMS students meet with success in the classroom and 80% or higher are meeting and/or exceeding the state goals according to the latest ISAT results.
HMS students are provided with wonderful field trip experiences during their three years here. Two special trips are the seventh grade overnight trip to Lorado-Taft in Oregon, Illinois and the eighth grade trip, the Challenger, at Purdue University-Calumet in Indiana. Students are able to compete athletically in both basketball and volleyball. HMS is a member of the IESA and the West Suburban Eighth Sports Conference. Dances, school-wide celebrations, spirit days, and other fun events bring a level of excitement to a normal school day.
Of course, the culminating event of each school year is the graduation ceremony recognizing the academic accomplishments of the students. 90% of HMS students or higher participate in this important event. This event is the last step in the elementary education as we send our students off to the next step, high school.
